Training and Student Affairs

Aristotle said, “Excellence is an art won by training and habituation.” We carry this spirit at the Yale-NUS Consulting Group, and we believe that professional training is the backbone to great consulting.

Over the summer of 2016, our Training Team will be developing the full training program that will be rolled out come Fall Semester of Academic Year 2016/17 for all students across institutions. Our Outreach Team will also be actively contacting speakers who are keen on coming down to Yale-NUS College to host workshops and discuss key insights related to the consulting industry, to give students fresh perspectives and the necessary contacts to break into the consulting industry.

Serious Career Skills

By partnering with experienced industry professionals and top consulting firms, we train skilled and well-informed students who are ready to take on the consulting industry.

Student Consultant Training Program

Our comprehensive 7 week training program will involve hands-on workshops conducted by internal and external trainers. By the end of the program, our students will be equipped with the skills necessary to take on a professional client case.

Week 1-3: Over the course of three weeks, we introduce students to fundamental tools and techniques required to approach cases. Some of the topics covered include issue identification, research and benchmarking, solution formulation, and risk & mitigations. These workshops will be conducted by trained students who have experience in handling client cases, and guest trainers with industry experience in top consulting firms.

Week 4: The Yale-NUS Consulting Group conducts a weekend long specialised workshop where external industry-specific trainers will equip our students with the tools and techniques used in particular industries, so that our consultants have an edge over generically trained consultants.

Week 5-6: Students will be given two weeks to work within their groups and prepare a proposal for the case that will be handed to them right at the start of the training program. To ensure that students are well-prepared, we will conduct regular consultation hours with experienced students and aim to hone skills such as client engagement and effective presentation delivery.

Week 7: To conclude our training program, we conduct an internal training case competition. Students will put their newly learned skills to the test and get constructive feedback from the judging panel.

Workshops and Competitions

Workshops and Competitions

Workshops

We conduct resume and cover letter workshops that are specific to the consulting industry. These workshops are conducted by career trainers with an experience in the consulting industry.

Case Competitions

Over the span of an academic year, we aim to conduct one internal and one external case competition. These competitions will serve the purpose of putting the learnt skills to test as well as getting a real time exposure to a fast-paced consulting case. The cases will revolve around current industry problems.
